Generating feedback for teaching observations

This case study outlines the implementation and impact of using AI-generated feedback prompts via TeacherMatic to support teaching observations during the Start to Teach session. The initiative aimed to streamline the feedback process for Micro-teach observations and improve the consistency and quality of feedback provided to new student teaching staff.
Background
As part of the Start to Teach programme, teaching observations were conducted to assess student Micro-teach presentations. To support observers and enhance the efficiency of feedback delivery, TeacherMatic’s feedback generator was utilised to create tailored prompts aligned with Level 7 (postgraduate) expectations.

The feedback prompts were compiled into a master document and made available via SharePoint for observer use.

Out of 12 completed Observer Forms:
Conclusion
The integration of TeacherMatic feedback prompts into the teaching observation process proved beneficial. It streamlined the feedback workflow, supported observers with high-quality comments, and ensured alignment with assessment criteria.

- 4 forms directly used TeacherMatic-generated feedback comments
- Additional forms contained feedback with similar wording to the prompts This indicates that TeacherMatic contributed to time savings and consistency in feedback delivery.
Conclusion
The integration of TeacherMatic feedback prompts into the teaching observation process proved beneficial. It streamlined the feedback workflow, supported observers with high-quality comments, and ensured alignment with assessment criteria.
