Jisc TeacherMatic Pilot Project
In September 2025, the BLE undertook joint coordination of a project alongside Birkbeck to investigate GenAI assessment and feedback tools. Sponsored by Jisc, our project pilots investigate the use of the platform, TeacherMatic and how its AI-enabled tools can enhance assessment and feedback practices across a variety of modules in different subject disciplines.
Academics from the participating institutions (Birkbeck, City St George's, LSHTM, UCL and the University of London) are invited to use TeacherMatic in at least one module assessment. Their experiences and reflections will be shared and collated in order to evaluate the impact and efficacy of the tools. Additional feedback will be gathered through student surveys, focus groups, and interviews.
Project Sponsor: Brett Lucas, Head of Digital Education, Birkbeck
Project leads: Sarah Sherman (BLE), Adele Cushing, Yasmin Ali, Kat Yu and Tavinder Mangat (Birkbeck)
Pilot leads: Adele Cushing (Birkbeck), Julie Voce and Rae Bowdler (City St George's), Tim Seal (LSHTM), Tim Neumann (UCL IOE) and Kirsty Branch (University of London)
